Is epoxy the answer to your quest for the perfect kitchen countertop? Or how about a gleaming, beautiful garage floor? While epoxy comes with a lot of benefits, it’s best to learn a little more about it first, before having it installed.
What Is Epoxy?
If you’ve heard the term, you likely associate it with a shiny, glossy surface. Epoxy is a chemical-resistant resin coating that can be applied to a variety of surfaces, giving them a protective gleam. Epoxy can be used on top of your concrete floors, wood tabletops, and even as your kitchen countertops.
Epoxy floors are remarkably durable, giving your spaces a protective shine for up to twenty years.
What Should You Know?
While epoxy comes with some great benefits, like any other surface, it has a few limitations you should be aware of.
- Watch the temperature. While epoxy is remarkably durable, temperatures above 135°F can damage the finish, so epoxy shouldn’t be exposed to continuously high temperatures.
- Is it a sunny spot? Epoxy has a beautiful, clear finish, but this clarity can become yellowed with continual exposure to UV light. So, if you’ll be using epoxy outdoors or in direct sunlight, consider an epoxy option with UV treatment.
- Be careful with food prep. Epoxy is safe to use in the kitchen, but it can be scratched and scuffed by sharp kitchen knives. So never slice your fruits and vegetables directly on an epoxy surface.
Epoxy isn’t a good fit for everyone, but with your new knowledge and some expert help from us at Patriot Concrete Coatings, we hope it will be the perfect fit for you.
